Maybe the music industry should stop trying to outlaw sharing amongst teenagers and realise these are - or were - their future customers. We have spent almost 30 years telling the kids that "copying" is "killing music" and yet we have not learnt that most teenagers are time rich and cash poor so are unable - not just unwilling - to afford the premium costs of all the recorded music available to them .At the same time they see labels and major artists "giving" music away with a newspaper or magazine - what message does that send?
Maybe the major labels should forget about selling to the kids and focus on that part of their audiience that does still want to buy music- time poor but cash rich. What other business focuses so much effort in selling premium priced goods to people with limited disposable income - especially after paying for their mobile, video games .
